Dental Implants: What to Expect

If Dr. Ayyubi tells you that you are a good candidate for a dental implant, you might have mixed emotions. You probably feel optimistic about the prospect of having a complete set of healthy teeth, but you might also be nervous about the process of having the implants placed. Feeling conflicted about any dental procedure is only natural. Usually, any reluctance that patients have results from not fully understanding what to expect.

The Procedure and Follow Up

Dr. Ayyubi will guide you and refer you to one of best oral surgeon to get your implant post placed. Upon request and/or Oral Surgeon’s clinical judgement, you might be sedated during your visit so you are comfortable while oral surgeon secures the implant post.At the first visit, oral surgeon will place the implant. It’s true that having an implant placed in your mouth is considered a minor surgery. Rest assured that oral surgeon will prescribe anesthesia to make sure that you feel little to no pain when the tooth socket is being prepared and the implant post is being inserted into your jaw bone. The bulk of the procedure involves the attachment of the metal post to the bone. Once that is complete, you will rest and come out of the anesthesia. It also takes time for bone tissue to begin build up around the post. This tissue is what will anchor the implant firmly in place.

At the second visit, Dr. Ayyubi will place the restoration. Once the crown or implant-secured bridge or denture is in place, you will soon become so accustomed to the natural ease of function that you will forget it’s not a natural tooth. Practicing regular and careful oral hygiene is especially important after you have a dental implant placed in your mouth. As the area heals, it’s important to keep food particles from building up around the implant. While dental implants are impervious to decay, you can still develop gingivitis or gum disease.
